Hugh McDonald’s playing style is as versatile as his resume, with a long-term commitment to Bon Jovi and a wealth of experience with artists who range from Alice Cooper to Willie Nelson. It’s hard to say what it was about the Delia bass that struck McDonald’s fancy when he saw it at our store in Boston. Perhaps it was the look of it its wine red, 1960s-inspired semi-hollow body. It could have been the healthy sustain and robust tone generated by the model’s flame maple top, mahogany back and sides, and hand-cut f-holes. The resonant sound flowing through its Darkstar pickup in the neck position and the Delgada bass pickup in the bridge position may have caught McDonald’s ear. Whatever the case, we’re proud he picked it up.
